How to Populate Fields Using AI in Workflows
AI workflow steps in Federal Compass allow you to automatically populate fields based on opportunity data. This helps streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and standardize how data is updated across your pipeline.
Who This Help

Once active, the AI step will automatically evaluate opportunity data and populate the selected field based on your prompt.
How the AI Step Works
The Set Field from AI step uses AI to analyze opportunity data and attachments in order to populate the selected field automatically
Rather than manually building workflow logic, the AI handles the evaluation based on the instructions provided in your prompt.
This allows teams to automate field updates and reduce manual decision-making within workflows.
Save and Activate
- Click Save Changes to save your workflow
- Toggle the workflow to Active to start running it
Once active, the AI step will begin evaluating records and populating fields automatically.

Saving does not activate the workflow, you must enable it separately.
View Workflow Logs
Each AI step includes a View Workflow Logs option, allowing you to:
- See which records were updated
- Track what actions were performed by the workflow
- View timestamps and assignment details
This helps validate that your workflow is running as expected

Example AI Prompts
Here are a few examples to help get started:
- Identify the priority of this opportunity based on due date and contract value
- Estimate the likelihood of winning based on past performance and agency history
- Find if this opportunity should be pursued based on scope and fit
- Calculate a recommended work share based on opportunity requirements
Best Practices
- Use clear, specific prompts for better AI results
- Start simple, then refine your workflow
- Review AI-generated steps before activating
- Monitor workflow logs to ensure accuracy
Using AI within workflows allows your team to automate field updates, improve consistency, and reduce manual effort. By combining AI with your workflow logic, you can build faster and more efficient processes across your pipeline.
